Ice-cream

ice-cream so wet,

to cool me down in the heat,

to bring out a smile,

whilst the sun shines down,

whatever the age,

everyone is happy,

to take you in their hands.

Reasons to love the summer

Hey readers,

We have had a couple of days so naturally can’t help but getting excited for the arrival of summer, I am British it is a thing and the fact that it properly me majority wet. That won’t stop me from celebrating all things summer.

I believe each has its good and bad, I suppose a bit like life really – you can’t have a rainbow without the rain. Anyhow, I digress. Now I am not a massive fan of humid heat with the right temperature and wind that is one thing I do look forward to. To go out more outdoors and not spend a huge fortune on the dreaded soft play areas. Fresh air is open and free nothing beats walking on the grass with your bare feet or looking up to see what shapes you can make with the clouds. It is a change to walk more and get out in the water parks or with a Frisbee.

During the summer months it means colder food such as salad, I do love a good ice burg lettuce. Alternatively, consuming ice-cream and drinking drinks with ice cubes in.

Summer is a time for less clothes, even though I am fat that doesn’t stop me from wearing shorts and showing my bear arms. Less need for leggings and more changes to wear dresses with the fresh breeze in the air.

As a lover of frugal I can’t not mention the fact there is little need to put the heating on and reduce your electricity bill. Likewise with the tumble dryer – instead opting for putting clothes on the line to dry all by themselves. I just love it when it is a hot day I can do two or three loads of washing and they are dry within a couple of hours, I know how exciting.

When the kids break up for a whole six weeks even though it is a daughting prospect the idea of lazy days and less rigman with the routine is a nice break for us parents.

Typically for my family our summer holiday occurs during the big six week school holiday, this gives us time to explore and see something different. Trying new places or food is always a winner in my eyes.

What kind of things do you enjoy about summer?

Beach Life

Hey Readers,

The other weekend we went out for a day to the seaside, which is supper exciting as we haven’t been to the coast for along time, so both my boys were super happy at the prospect.

We went to Dorset as it wasn’t the closest and it had sandy beach as my hubby does not like stoney beach, lol.

We went to a local coastal town called Lymington which was  lovely quaint town. We popped into a lovely little tea room and had some delicious sandwiches.

Then we decided to have a stroll around the town and take it easy. We obviously we had to have ice-cream as it is the law when you away.  We came to a real cool decorated ice-cream parlour, I just love the fun balloon lights.

Their ice-cream is one of the best we have ever had. My sons love bubblegum ice-cream natural but when they saw the bubble gum ice-cream cone that blew their tiny little minds.

It was lovely to just take our time and look around at the shops. We even got to see a gold letter box, which both my boys loved.

As you can see there was plenty of visual features to see. I am so easily distracted by quirky buildings and what not.

We then ventured on to a boat yard, and that smell takes me to so many happy memories of vising the sea side. There were seagulls and then general hustle and bustle of day to day life of fisherman and all that kind of thing.

The man in the above photo attracted my son’s attention as he was doing a bit of water-colouring.

We then travelled to a local beach (Avon) as you can’t beat a visit to the beach. Even though it looked overcast it was pleasantly warm.

My boys enjoyed jumping on the waves and building sandcastles. Luckily we didn’t visit during the heatwave period as it was fairly quite which I enjoy more as there is less noise and chaos about. (yeah I know anti-social but true).

Sadly, we only stopped for the day but it was a good day none the less and both boys returned home full of happy memories.

National picnic week

Hey readers,

Apparently I have been told that this week is national picnic week so let’s celebrate this appreciate for all things picnicy!

Firstly, as a parent picnic’s are a blessing because it means less tiding up for you as you leave the crumbs and check the paper plates in the bin, result!

You can pretend to be all fancy with your paper plates and napkins, there is a sense of sophistication (even if it is paper).

It is a great way to get out of mummy prison and less time having to focus on what the hell you going to do to entertain your child.

Any excuse for some ice-cream – let’s make this a number one priority when having a picnic.

Picnic food can be finger food, which is my kinda food. It is lovely a spread out where you can take as you please, there is a sense of family and togetherness. You can bond and talk about life *cue sick bucket*.

Nothing says summer like eating out Al fresco in the open.

When your young it feels like an adventure and it is free in the fact that when it is winter and miserable you end up in soft play hell and a hole in your wallet.

It is good to have a change of scenery and doing something different. Parenting can become tedious doing the same thing day in, day out so it gives us parents a change to keep hold of your sanity.

Eating outside when the sun is shining is a quick way to top up on some Vitamin D, which has some health benefits with helping  your mind feel good.

Technically if the child/ren are outside they are running around during that energy off which means that they should sleep better, *fist pumps*.
