Cool for cats

Hey readers,

You can learn a lot about cats about how to live a more relaxed life. I hate being human sometimes, I just doubt everything in my tiny little mind. I dread Friday is the worst, it is like I have had a whole week to beat myself up on not being good enough.

CAT 3

Why do ‘some’ of us torture ourselves, we think we are weak when really we must be strong to get through this personal torment. There are days when all I would love to do is sit back in my hammock and just forget everything.  I know, I know I think too much, that is always been my downfall. I am just so glad for summer holidays, I am exhausted from worrying about not being good enough parent.

CAT 1

I hate failure, we all fear it but if asked what is success, I wouldn’t be able to tell you so how can I fail if I don’t know what the alternative is?!

Life is much simpler being a cat, all you need to worry about is the small stuff like finding a place that is warm and sunshine touching your fur. How amazing would that be to have to care in the world. Maybe I should ask my husband because he is an expert in it.

Being a cat has so many benefits such as, getting rent free, being able to sleep as much as you want and have the freedom to roam about and piss on your territory . I would definitely be up for that, haha. Even if people annoy you, you cats can walk away and not give a damn, that must be so liberating not caring what other people think. There is no drama about being fat and what worrying about how people view you, you just prance about in your fur all day, look great with no effort whatsoever.

CAT 2

Told you cats have it great, we can learn a thing or too.

I now leave you on a final quote:

Cats are connoisseurs of comfort.

James Herriot.

Reasons why I love Aldi

Hey readers,

Let me tell you something about me  – I love to shop in Aldi. This post is all about my appreciate for the shop. See below my reasons why.

Can’t beat browsing the special buy isle, you never know what you are going find. It is pretty random and it changes frequently so you can excited with what will be on offer. You go into Aldi with aim of getting one thing and then come out with random selection of items.

aldi 1

I am not a middle class blogger, I am on a budget and Aldi prices are reasonable. You can actually get fresh fruit and vegetable without fearing it cost a tenner.

They have some pretty cool recipes to try out, always handy if you are a rushed parent and need some inspiration.

They have some unusual items such as gin popsicles and deer burger. I Love the fact that Aldi are experimental in the choices of products in their shop.

Aldi support the Red Tractor label whereby the meet is 100% British therefore supporting local communities.

There isn’t a massive selection of choice compared to other supermarkets. However, this does mean that it is less stressful because I am not overwhelmed with choice. It is a fairly relaxed shopping experience, apart from the end with packing shopping away. (But then again I tend not to go with my children because of this and I like leisurely pace around the store).

aldi 3

You be sure that every single Aldi has the same layout, therefore you know where everything is, meaning less stress shopping if you need to check into different Aldi’s. There is nothing more frustrating when supermarkets decide to change where they put stuff, nobody got no time for that!

I love the fact that Aldi every fortnight have a thing called super 6 special buys, consisting of fruit and vegetables at a lower price. This is great way to encourage people to buy healthier options.

aldi 2

Aldi now at their tills have healthy items such as fruit, rice cakes and water to not lead you into temptation.

If you shop at Aldi what kind of things do you like about the store?

Autistic Feet

Hey readers,

My feet hurt today as a result of over using them yesterday. I know so what?! Here is the think why I am talking about my feet is the fact I am autistic you see and my feet posture is not very good. I have always had problems with standing and the way I coordinate my feet.

walking

I am so clumsy as well when I walk, I am guaranteed to trip up even if there is nothing there. The amount of bashing my toes into stuff and cursing under my breathe is unreal. My husband affectionately finds it funny.

I also shuffle my feet, especially when I am stressed. I am constantly getting told stop shuffling your feet like I am some kind of child.

walking 2

You don’t realise how hard it is to put one foot in front of the other. It can be really challenging. I never really thought about my physical problems when I was younger and now as an autistic adult I am still learning.

It is my arms I struggle with – not really knowing what to do with them when I walk, I find them painful and just frustrating. It is like I have to train my mind to swing my arms when I walk. It is so difficult as I am rubbish at doing two tasks at the same time.

One of the major problems that I struggle with as an autistic person is using my spacial awareness skills and navigating around objects and people. I am not good at forward planning especially in a busy place where I am over stimulated with the sensory information. Sometimes, I get so overwhelmed that I need to sit down and take a moment to take a break because of how mentally exhausting it is.

If I don’t think about my walking and focus on it, I really struggle with bumping into things or trip up.

walking 3

We as a human are meant to learn this skill at an early age and it to be developed. Therefore not having to think about it as it is a long term in implicit memory. It is wired in the brain so you don’t have to think about it, it is second nature.  Being an autistic person we miss out on this opportunity and I do wonder before language evolved how many humans died due to lack of ‘natural’ skills due to having a different way of thinking.

So, therefore if you do wonder why do us autistic people get SO tired this is a little insight, because we have to constantly work our asses of and remembering all these ‘natural’ rules that people take for granted.

Reasons to love the summer

Hey readers,

We have had a couple of days so naturally can’t help but getting excited for the arrival of summer, I am British it is a thing and the fact that it properly me majority wet. That won’t stop me from celebrating all things summer.

I believe each has its good and bad, I suppose a bit like life really – you can’t have a rainbow without the rain. Anyhow, I digress. Now I am not a massive fan of humid heat with the right temperature and wind that is one thing I do look forward to. To go out more outdoors and not spend a huge fortune on the dreaded soft play areas. Fresh air is open and free nothing beats walking on the grass with your bare feet or looking up to see what shapes you can make with the clouds. It is a change to walk more and get out in the water parks or with a Frisbee.

During the summer months it means colder food such as salad, I do love a good ice burg lettuce. Alternatively, consuming ice-cream and drinking drinks with ice cubes in.

IMG_9775

Summer is a time for less clothes, even though I am fat that doesn’t stop me from wearing shorts and showing my bear arms. Less need for leggings and more changes to wear dresses with the fresh breeze in the air.

As a lover of frugal I can’t not mention the fact there is little need to put the heating on and reduce your electricity bill. Likewise with the tumble dryer – instead opting for putting clothes on the line to dry all by themselves. I just love it when it is a hot day I can do two or three loads of washing and they are dry within a couple of hours, I know how exciting.

alone 2

When the kids break up for a whole six weeks even though it is a daughting prospect the idea of lazy days and less rigman with the routine is a nice break for us parents.

Typically for my family our summer holiday occurs during the big six week school holiday, this gives us time to explore and see something different. Trying new places or food is always a winner in my eyes.

What kind of things do you enjoy about summer?

Why I am pro-child telly!

Hey readers,

For the past five years of being a mother my main obsession has been Television / entertainment. I have been rattled with guilt, paranoia to near destruction of what other people think, mainly because of the pressure of social media but also because I feel my autism is a downfall. Therefore, I need to score points of being ‘ better’ because of my inabilities in other areas.

telly

I would obsess so much that i could not think of anything else, I would not enjoy my time with my child and felt always on edge.

I felt that my child if they watched TV every single condition associated with allowing your child to watch TV they would get.

I would get annoyed at hubby being so relaxed with just turning the telly on and I am always on edge. My whole body aches from anxiety. I worry that I am a failure because I allow my child to watch TV.

But recently I have learnt to accept that you know what TV isn’t that bad. It can be enjoyable, I love good old Mr Bean.

kid tv

TV can have a positive effect it can help with my son’s speech delay, it can educate them or it can simply help my eldest wind down from when he gets in from school.

I have noticed that if I live the TV all day long thew kids get bored, they wonder off. They look for something to do and they happy play together or entertain themselves.

When I dropped the guilt and thought fuck it, as long as they are happy, fed and alive that is all that matters.

kid tv 2

It is not the end of the world, it is so hard for any more especially first time round to know what to do and how to deal with giving the right amount of input.

But hand on my heart I have found the more relaxed I am, the more relaxed everyone else is around me.

Sometimes, you have to accept what the situation is and yes sometimes the 43 inch  babysitter helps because I am struggling or just need a break.

We are all more happy when I adopt this attitude. Plus, my eldest watched very little TV and very likely autistic. my youngest watches a TV, more clear in speech and socialable and not likely autistic. What does that say?!

So, if your reading this, give yourself a break, you are properly doing fine and the more research shows us that more then ever are parents more engaged.

Children’s CozyPhones Review

best and Hey readers,

As a parent sometimes I wish for a bit of quiet time, especially if you have listened to the Gummy Bear song for the umpteenth time. Well here is a solution by having some CozyPhones headband headphones to give to my child to plug into tablet time. I don’t have to worry about them falling our as the earphones are inside the headband giving that extra security.

IMG_8697

IMG_8695

Firstly,  I absolutely love the concept of the headband and as I have child that would constantly be pulling the ear phones in and out this is a helpful product to stop that from happening. Not to mention the design is soft, fun with the bright green frog character (although other characters are available). The only downfall sadly is the size is a bit too small so quite fiddly to put on my son’s head, however this  could be the fact my son has a big head.

Once we mastered getting the headband on and making sure the speaker part (is a round circle type thing, proper technical term there) in place they were good to go.

My eldest loves the headband because he feels all grown up as he has seen mummy with headphones when she goes out for a run.

IMG_8701

IMG_8711

The stitching is really good quality and the material of the headband is soft fleece material. The cord has a 35mm plug so is compatible with a lot of different devices. The 36 inch braided cord comes in 36 inches  and can manage the wear and tear of a normal child life.  There is free shipping and cost $19.99. If you not a happy then a money back  guarantee.

Overall they are brilliant and much better then ear plugs. My son said they were really comfortable and he could hear really well through the headphones. Another positive about the headbands is that they are perfect for road trips when you need something to distract your child from asking are we there yet over and over. Giving you time to concentrate on a relaxed journey. They can also make great gifts for birthdays.

You can find more details about the product here – CozyPhones.

I was given a pair of CozyPhones in exchange for a review. However, all opinions expressed are entirely in my own.

9 ways to wind down

Hey readers,

As a person who struggles to wind down it is always good to find ways to help me switch off. I am quite an anxious person naturally, so therefore, at times I can neglect myself especially when the anxiety is getting to me.

1) Turn off the technology, this will help you switch off from all the noise that is going on. It give you time to turn off the thoughts and help get your body naturally tired.

2) Don’t drink caffeine an hour before bed as caffeine is a known stimulate that will increase the changes of not wanting to go to bed.

caffine

3) Make sure you get the right temperature for bedroom to help you feel more comfortable and ready to settle down for the night.

4) Reading before bed is a fantastic way to help get you tired but also feel more relaxed.

reading in bed.jpg

5) Watch something that is calming and not thought provoking and not a programme that will make you think or cause an emotional reaction because you don’t want racing thoughts as it can prevent you from sleeping and more likely waste timing thinking where you could of been sleeping.

tv

6) If you have anything thoughts that seem to be repeating and stopping you from getting sleep a good technique is to have a note book by your bed and writing down your thoughts. If there are written down then it is more easier to stay on top of them and they can then be deal with in the morning.

notepad

7) Having a bedtime routine can help settle you down ready for sleep and it also trains your brain so it gets used to knowing what is happening and what to expect.

8) Put some relaxing music and create a calming environment.

9) Have a bath – a great way to relax and soak the muscles after a long day.

Enlightment

Hey readers,

Sometimes, I feel shocked and how instinctive I become over my children. Even though I am autistic I always thought I would never match up with other other parents. I always felt that little bit different, like something is missing but I can’t find it. But then life surprises you at times, sometimes they are the best times, the unexpected situations that really blow you away.

reflective 1

I find that when I am in the mist of self-doubt and uncertainty being in a situation to defend yourself and ultimately being emerged in it, some inner strength comes along and you can do it, if exposed to that situation.

You learn more things about yourself then you would ever imagine and sometimes it is that small victories hat can make you feel so much better. Therefore enabling me to create a better and  stronger attachment between myself and my children.

reflective 2

You can almost forget what you can do because the brain and the thoughts are so distorted that it alters your reality.  Sometimes us mums are so hard on ourselves that it is barbaric the mental torture we put on ourselves. The sad thing is that I am doing ok, but sometimes with all the mixed messages out and about it can cause confusion, leaving you feel a little lost.

Then small nuggets of enlightenment can help you grow in your confidence in your ability to parent.  Ideally, I have always found that stepping away and giving yourself time to be without constantly listening to the noise. This can help give me that break to think more clearly.  Even if it is to just simply breakdown and have that time to just allow all them emotions escape. Sometimes, feelings can be built up so much that they can be real burden. So, allowing them to be expressed and getting it out of your system is really beneficial instead of it building up and weighing you down.

reflective 3

I have always found that in one way or another you will find way, it may take time but you will grow. Just hold on through and that moment will pass, even though it feels like hell at the time.

Christmas Traditions

Hey readers,

We all have them memories of things we did in our childhood, especially for Christmas that we hold on to and want to share with our children. I am going to share some of mine that we do for my children at Christmas.

Let’s start with a golden oldie, leaving a plate with a mince pie, carrot and drink on the night of Christmas Eve. Obliviously, we as parents will have to leaves some crumbs and icing sugar to let child know Santa has been. In the morning when they see the plate they are beyond happy especially as they link to presents.

Having a select day to decorate the tree in December with the kiddos happens every year. It is a challenge for us parents to not want to kill our children due to the chaos but overall it is jolly good fun. That does not stop us adults though sneakily later on in the evening go and rearrange the tree.

Image result for children decorating christmas tree
On Christmas Eve we get into our comfy clean pjs to settle down early evening and watch whatever ‘premiere’ child friendly cartoon is on and this year. I can guarantee this will be no different this year with we are going on a bear hunt airing on Christmas Eve.

Another tradition that we do is write a letter to Santa to let him know that your child has been good and what your child would dearly love this year. This year my eldest basically wanted everything in Smyth’s store 😉

Image result for christmas letter father christmas
Followed by at Christmas we do a reply letter from Santa, AKA mummy to tell my little darling how lovely they have been and let’s forget all about the bad times, because Christmas is meant to be all lovely and warm. This will be left for Christmas Day.

Every year with my children we make a Christmas decoration (brought form the lovely Poundland) to go on our Christmas tree.

Finally, the last thing I love doing with my children is on Christmas Day after dinner going for a walk, more than likely to the park. There is something lovely about going outdoors when the majority of people are indoors. There is a strange type of eeriness to it.
