I am a slug

Hey readers,

I promised to write more positive posts but then I would not be true to myself. I don’t want to give the impression my life is all lovely and full of flowers when really it can be pretty crap being autistic and trying to cope.

My brain is dead!

One of the things I seem to struggle is finding my mojo….whereever you are please come back soon, I miss the buzz of the get-up and go!

I feel meh….I know it is only a feeling and that too shall pass. But right now it is hard work to get up and go. I wish I had motivation but having quite an emotional week with downers and feeling well suicidal at one point. I kept thinking life would be much better if I wasn’t here, I f*ck up too much. Don’t worry it was a brief moment when I was right down low and I wanted me to take me. I am still here fighting. I am always fighting and you know what it is bloody tiring. I have to battle my thoughts and try to get on with it and during the summer holiday, it is more intense.

I am sure I will feel better soon, emotions are exhausting and you need time to heal. I sure do, I am exhausting, I just want to stop thinking for a bit. I am constantly planning and preparing because if I don’t then I stubble, badly. Communication, as I have said previously in posts, is something I struggle with, even if it is with people I know. I tend to have a catalog or format in my head on how to speak. Sometimes, I am too exhausted. You could call me anti-social – which would be true. However, space is a big thing for me, I am an introvert by heart and I have come to accept that. I need calm and quiet to move forward.

I suppose writing this out, it has helped clear my thoughts and made me realise that the one thing I need is rest. I need time to heal. It is important to me and it will help greatly.  I used to be embarrassed by the fact that social aspect of life makes me so tired and frequently need that rest. I think because of a lot of mental energy and that soon saps away especially if I am working harder as I don’t have the correct natural skills to do the communicating so many people so automatic and they don’t have to even think about.

Sometimes, we have to stop and have a break. It just feels that everywhere there is this notion that you have to be on the go 24-7 but that isn’t the case? I suppose that is why the slow movement has been come popular and a lot of people like myself are getting tired of this fast pace called life.

I think one of the hardest things for me as an autistic is to accept that some things will always be a struggle and that they do tire me. I need to learn to rest and not see myself as a failure because of this. I am sure people don’t look at people with a broken leg or whatever and view them as not thriving. I just have to work around my limitations and do what can do. At least I can say I have tried.

Review of The Selfie Bag

Hey readers,

Have you heard of the selfie bag?…..  me neither! Well, that was until recently when I had the opportunity to review the selfie bag. The bag is designed by a company called Cotton Bag Co who focus on eco-friendly reusable bags.

So what is a selfie bag?

The bag in all it’s glory!

The Selfie bag is bassically a bag but with extra customised pockets – one for your phone and the other to keep your selfie stick in, perfect for any selfie lover out there that want to take selfies on the go. What I like about the pockets is that they are easy to access to get your mobile and selfie stick because you never know when an opportunity to take a selfie will come.

As you can see the two different pockets – one for the phone and the other to keep the selfie stick secure.

The bag also has a mirror sheet to help the light bounce off and onto your face giving that much more natural feel to your selfies. Sadly, the one downside to the sheet is that it gets easily crinkled causing a water effect if the company could change the design to make it firmer not so easy to get crinkled then that makes the bag perfect.

The mirror sheet.

What I like about the bag is that it feels super soft canvas material. There is plenty of space to carry shopping plus bits and bobs. The arm handles are really comfy and they are just the right size, Some bags have really small handles and then they fall down constantly. So, this bag is really comfortable to hold when out and about. It is well made and you can tell from the quality of the material that should last a long time. Therefore saving you money and also looking after the environment.

Loads of room in there for shopping and other bits.

The design of the selfie bag is a black background with a gold pattern making it feel stylish and not just for the main purpose of holding your technology.

Sun Worshipper.
Shameless selfie.
Me and the boy in the bright sunshine.
Testing out photos without the stick.
Snap, snap!
Me checking out the bag, whilst the boys are knocking about.

One last crucial bit of information is that when you buy the bag, you do get an information sheet with the do’s and don’ts when it comes to capturing the perfect selfie.

I have been gifted the bag in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Hey readers,

My word of the week is:

First of to kick start the summer hols on day son decides to run in the kitchen with the tablet and accidently drop it on the floor. Restyling in leaving a wonderful massive crack on the tablet, excellent stuff.

We decided to try out the camping for one night this week and sadly I just couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t cope with the whole situation due to my autism. SO now I feel pretty crappy about myself about the whole situation that I am not good parent again because I cannot do what normal people do. I had a meltdown because of all the stresses and I worry that my husband thinks I’m a right diva but I’m not I just can’t cope with the situation. I am useless with change and dealing with new environments especially when it involves waiting around. It just a big massive trigger for me.

Ways to improve your mental health

Hey readers,

I have spent a large proportion of my life living and battling mental health problems. I have experienced anxiety, depression, and OCD. So, I for one know how hard it is to manage and get on with living your life when you have hurdles to overcome. Here are some of the ways in which I try to help myself with improving my mental health and they may be useful for you too if you struggle.

Learn to be kinder to yourself.

This one is an ongoing problem that I struggle with, it is too put yourself down when you have learned to over time. It is easy to batter yourself with the negativity especially when you’re dealing with trauma. That said one of the ways you can do something positive in your life is to learn to be kinder to yourself. I bet if the situation was turned to a loved one would you speak to them the way you do to yourself. Changes are no so looking at the good, praise your achievement even if it is small. You can change behavior though it takes time but needs to be practicing to do so.

Take time out.

One of the best things for me when I am struggling is having time out to myself to have a breather and stop. For me, I like to get my headphones on and walk. It makes me switch off and just go somewhere else other than the situation I am in.

Set realistic goals.

Goals are brilliant – they help give focus and something to aim for. However, the one thing that can occur for people is making goals that are too unrealistic and less likely over time to stay focused and achieve. So, when you do consider making goals have a big goal but then make micro goals to help along the way to achieve that big goal. Another thing to take on board to reward yourself with something when you have reached the small goals. This will make you feel good and make you want to continue to the next level of achieving that goal.

See the positives.

As a person who sees the world with an empty cup of water, it can be so hard to see the positives sometimes you got to wing it until you make it. What I mean by that statement is that you have to force to see the positives, write them down and find something even if it is getting out of the bed in the morning, that is progress. Habits are hard to break so get into forcing yourself to write down three positives a day, over time this will become easier to do.

Break up the monotony.

Life can be boring at times so that why it is important to do something now again that breaks that samey samey up, you don’t have to spend a fortune you could go to the local park and have a picnic. It is refreshing to do something different now and again, it allows you to look forward to that day.

What things have helped improve your mental health?

How not to lose your sh*t during Summer holidays

Hey readers,

For me, it is now officially summer holidays where my boys have no school for SIX WEEKS, eek! Now, as much as I love spending quality time with my boys it can be hard work and be exhausting to keep them entertained and deal with the bickering/ boredom that occurs when during this period.

So how do you manage to keep your cool and not lose it?

Well, I  think one technique for me is to walk away and have my time out in the bedroom. I need quiet time as an introvert and space is important to me. Luckily I have a supportive husband who takes care of the little darlings and vice versa as well. I think you can feel guilty for not permanently wanting to look after your children yourself but I have learned that it is much more important to have time out away from the carnage. It makes the family home a much calmer environment.

I feel getting outside can help, breathing in the fresh air especially if you are like me and not in a position to have a garden. I take my boys out locally and get them to scoot about. This helps burn some energy and it is fairly simple to do. Alternatively, hitting the park for a picnic is a great way to have a day out and enjoy the outdoors.

On the other hand, it is ok to have chilled times at home and whack the babysitter tv on. I have a motto you do what you can in a situation and sometimes we all need to just relax in front of the old familiar place. Previously, I used to feel so guilty about putting the TV on but not anymore, I am thankful for it. It has saved my sanity and it is good to relax and not do a lot. That is what a holiday is for right? It is also ok not to be busy 24/7 as much as Instagram would like to tell us. It is much better to be relaxed and just enjoy the time, it is ok to simply do nothing. It is ok to allow your child to rest, remember they have worked hard all year at school, it is time for a break.

Don’t always try to find things for your kids when you are bored. I know for a long time I felt I had to instantly deal with the dreaded statement, “I am bored” but do you know what it is good for kids to get bored. This time when your children are under stimulated is a life lesson on trying to find ways to deal with the problems and enhance their creative skills.

It is ok for parents to let their hair down when children are around. I know shocking right but is not healthy constantly having to deal with the requests of the children. Sometimes you have to give your children that independence to learn to make decisions about their problems.
